Saskatchewan Egg Producers

Roles and Responsibilities
The Saskatchewan Egg Producers (SEP) collected approximately $965 thousand in check-offs in 2004.  The agency uses this money to manage its administration office, the industrial products removal program, the eggs for processing program and to manage the supply management system in Saskatchewan.  Management of the supply managed system in Saskatchewan includes negotiating the provinces quota levels with the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency, negotiating price levels and developing a long-term strategic focus for Saskatchewan’s egg industry.

Membership
Membership in the SEP is limited to Saskatchewan producers who have quota rights.  Quota is allocated to the province by the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency.  Saskatchewan producers are then allocated quota from the provincial board.  There is no limit on the amount of provincial quota that any one person/corporation may own.

How the agency works
The SEP is funded by a non-refundable check-off that all registered egg producers must pay.  An board of directors, elected from the registered producers, leads the agency.  All directors must be registered chicken producers.  This group of piers determines the direction Saskatchewan’s egg industry and continues to fund research and development activities intended increase productivity and profitability for producers.
