How the
agency works
SFSDC is funded by a check-off of 0.75% of the gross value of forage seed sold at the first point of sale. All forage seed crops, excluding alfalfa, are subject to the check-off. The check-off rate is determined by order of the commission. From the levy raised, the agency performs research and development activities that are intended to reduce producer's costs of production, increase yields or develop new markets.
