Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission

Roles and Responsibilities The Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission (SMDC) was established in 2003. The purpose of the SMDC is to collect a refundable check-off from producers and perform research and development that is intended to improve yields, decrease input costs, increased demand and create an overall better product.
Membership Membership in SMDC is not mandatory. As a member of SMDC, there are benefits, including access to research and a strong industry voice to fight for issues important to mustard producers.	Important Issues 1. Board Members
How the agency works SMDC is funded by a check-off of 0.5% of the gross value of mustard marketed. The check-off is determined by the board of directors and must be voted on by producers at the Annual General Meeting. From the levy raised, the agency performs research and development activities that are intended to reduce producer's costs of production, increase yields or develop new markets.
