Roles and
Responsibilities
The Saskatchewan Oat Development Commission (SODC) was established
in April, 2006 and began collecting check-off on August 1, 2006.
The purpose of the SODC is to collect a refundable check-off
from producers to fund research and development that is intended
to research new market opportunities, improve yields, decrease
input costs, increased demand and create an overall better product.

Registered Producers
To be considered a registered oat producer, you must have paid
check-off to the SODC in the last 2 fiscal years without having
received a refund of any check-off in the last 2 years. As
a registered producer with the SODC, there are benefits including
voting privileges, eligibility to run as a director, access
to research and a strong industry voice to fight for issues important
to oat producers. |

How the
agency works
The SODC is funded by a check-off of $0.50 per net tonne of oats
marketed at the first point of sale. All oats sold, excluding
oats produced and consumed on the same farm, are subject to
the check-off. The check-off rate is determined by order of
the commission. From the levy raised, the agency performs research
and development activities that are intended to reduce producer's
costs of production, increase yields or develop new markets.
