Frequently Asked Questions What is the purpose of this initiative? The Saskatchewan Obsolete Pesticide Collection Campaign will provide free, safe disposal of de-registered, outdated, unwanted or otherwise obsolete agricultural and commercial pesticides during a province-wide blitz from October 23, to 25, 2007. What will be accepted during the campaign? Participating agricultural retail collection locations will only accept de-registered, outdated, unusable or unwanted agricultural, professional turf and ornamental pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and rodenticides) at designated collection sites (collection locations to be posted in June 2007). The following products will NOT be accepted: empty pesticide containers, spray tank rinsate, treated seed, home/garden pesticides, paints, thinners, waste oils or any other household hazardous waste. Please take household hazardous waste to your local hazardous waste depot. Contact your local government or municipal office for more information. Who organizes and oversees the Obsolete Pesticide Collection Campaign? The collection campaign is a partnership between federal and provincial governments, agricultural retailers and CropLife Canada. Who pays for the disposal? The campaign is jointly funded (50/50) by CropLife Canada and the Saskatchewan Council for Community Development through the Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food Saskatchewan (ACAAFS) program. Funding for the ACAAFS program is provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. What is the cost to farmers? Disposal is FREE for agricultural and commercial based operations. This includes farmers of all kinds who are involved in production agriculture. It also includes landscape companies, private forestry nurseries, golf courses, turf operations and commercial exterminators. This campaign is NOT to be used by hospitals, government organizations or municipalities (excluding golf courses) that are not directly involved in agricultural production or research. These organizations may contact their local government or municipal office for hazardous waste disposal depots, or CropLife Canada to arrange suitable alternatives. What if I cannot drop off my obsolete pesticide during the blitz? Obsolete products will be transported from each designated agricultural retail point immediately following the collection period. In the event that you cannot dispose of any obsolete pesticides during the collection period (October 23 to 25, 2007), please contact CropLife Canada or your local agricultural retail collection location prior to the commencement of the program and suitable arrangements for disposal will be made.
